I loved it, of course---beautiful, funny, sad, great, all of it.

One thing that does linger unpleasantly, though---the restaging of French Jews taken by the Nazis is very virtuous and historical and right-minded and all, but... I can't help but wonder how many of those charming Chinese workers she photographed were among the 60-some million killed under Mao. I understand this is no sort of political work, and Varda's Black Panthers doc was one of the more prescient looks at the dangers of New Left ideology very early on... but... considering the use of the memories of fascism as part of her "life and times", and the very direct involvement her and Marker had with the early years of the Chinese revolution, it's an uncomfortable omission.

But that is, er, a minor quibble in the larger film, which is, of course, great.
