I thought it was established in this episode (if we can trust Juliet's assertion), that women who conceive on the island not only cannot deliver their baby, but they end up dying, however, women who conceive off of the island do not die and do give birth. This happened with Claire and Rousseau (who was 7 months pregnant when she got to the island). I assume the same is true for Ben's mother - she conceived off island but gave birth to Ben on the island.

Regarding the Others' ability to learn about Sawyer killing a man (Duckett) days before boarding Oceanic 815...I too found it difficult to believe they would know about this. But, it may be that during the murder investigation (either by the Authorities or by the Others), a connection was established between Duckett and Hibbs (Sawyer's partner, who lied to Sawyer and told him that Duckett was the original Sawyer that our Sawyer has been looking for all his life). Also, they would easily establish the connection between Hibbs and Sawyer. Combine that with the knowledge that Sawyer was in the same town as Duckett, Sawyer becomes #1 suspect. Granted, the Others don't know for sure that Sawyer killed Duckett, but the evidence is pretty damning. Maybe when the Others had him captive earlier this season and they drugged him, they were able to extract this info from him.

I'm dreading another jack flashback as much as you are. I think the show is weakest when it focuses on Jack, Sawyer, and Kate (early season 6).

Did anyone notice the women who died on the table's name was Sabine? Lostpedia's potential link to the rape of the sabines is pretty interesting. Have the others found their society on some fundamentally corrupt act, whose resolution will have to come through the abducted?

Everyone is assuming that Juliet is lying to Jack & Co., based on the scene with Ben. But what if it's the other way around. The scene of Juliet plotting w/ Ben didn't jive with her repeated demands to go home.....

Do we know it's impossible for people to give birth on the island, or just to conceive and bring a baby to term? In other words, was it a lie that Claire would have died if not for the intervention of the Others? (Since we know it was not withdrawl from medication that brought on Claire's symptoms but the mysterious chip.) Perhaps Ben was conceived off the island, though I can't remember if we were told whether Rousseau was already pregnant when she arrived.

I too wondered how the Others could have known about Sawyer killing the man he believed had been the con artist responsible for destroying his family. (Who I think we all know, or are being led to believe, was Locke's father.)

Rousseau claims she gave birth on the island. Ben claims that's scientifically impossible (although tellingly he now raises Rousseau's daughter as his own). So either she's wrong about the chronology (and her interactions with Bakunin seemed to reveal a few inconsistencies) or Ben is lying (again).

Or you've discovered one of those pesky plot holes.

Dead on about Holloway's performance as Sawyer. I always grumbled that all he could do was furrow his brow and say, "Freckles," yet I didn't realize how well he has been performing lately because, well, he's doing it so well. But I now look forward to Sawyer (and I find it frustrating that Jack gets a 3rd flashback while Sawyer, who's in as many if not more episodes this season than Jack, gets only one lame one at the beginning of the season).

This week's revelation about Juliet's (as of now presumed) true motifes was to me in a way both heart-breaking and exhilarating. I am quite convinced that the ploy with her convieniently arriving with a cure as Claire got sick will not go by unnoticed nor unchallanged by Sayid, Sawyer nor Desmond. Expect this to be addressed in a future episode. I see a big clash between them and Jack on the horizon.
