Late, late response:
Great insights into Fuller's humanistic thread, Keith. I always think of Spike Lee as neo-Fuller (tabloid, shit-talking topicality), minus an experience comparable to the Faulkenau death camps to temper his cynicism and instinct for shrill heckling.

As for The Baron of Arizona, I think you missed the sheer entertainment value of that flick. It was a real crowd-pleaser when I saw it with a packed house at AMMI-- possibly the most entertaining B-movie I've seen. Vincent Price's performance is pure quiet madness, charisma, sociopathy. This flick is probably more appropriate for a Price collection, as it does seem out of step with Fuller's more ambitious work. Still, The Baron, along with the funny bits in flicks like Steel Helmet and South Street, make me wish Fuller had done a few all-out comedies, or Sturges-like satires.
