I'd love to know what show that song with Rock Hudson came from...

More (including videos) on the late, great Ms. Arthur over at my place.

I've got an appreciation up over at my site.

I'm beside myself. I very rarely react to celebrity deaths, but this one forced me to get out the CD copy of Bea Arthur on Broadway. Amidst the dirty jokes, the song of the day: "The Chance to Sing."

Hollywood is mourning and so am i. I have always like Beatrice Arthur.. i remember fondly and i know that may seem odd to say, the series Maude.. i used to go around singing it when i was in grade school. Bea i know that Estelle and you are having a great reunion...

"Everybody Today is Turning On" is from that '70s partner-swapping musical "I Love My Wife."

Side note -- why the hell did the NYTimes obituary headline call Bea only "TV Battleaxe" instead of, say, award winning actress of stage & screen?

Why the hell did the NYTimes obituary headline call Bea only "TV Battleaxe" instead of, say, award winning actress of stage & screen? That's easy. They're fucking morons who believe a snide attitude compensates for actual knowledge of subject matter. Cf. Maureen Dowd.

well put, Estiv.

Rest in peace, Maude Findlay.

This one hurts. Bea Arthur and her work have never really been awarded the recognition they deserve, particularly for Maude, right up there with All In The Family as the most challenging, dramatic, and flat-out funny sitcoms ever.No one has the guts to deal with these issues anymore on TV. Those of you who are too young will be surprised at the sophistication and bravery of that show. Much loved and very much missed. Try to find the clip from Maude where Bea sings "Hard Hearted Hannah." She reprised it on Golden Girls, but the original is the one to see.
