Hello Faithful Non-Listeners!

We're nearing the end of our first season of recording/drinking/merry-making at Grassroots, and what better way to help our way out than rape? Kidding—but our guests this week are Andrew Grant and Aaron Hillis (Village Voice, IFC News), the duo behind Benten Films, so of course we discuss their recent release, The Free Will, it being the technical first film that Benten went after before there even was a Benten. 10 minutes of rape-time goodness and the perils of international DVD licensing! We also get into a healthy debate about independent releasing, one or two awkwardly phrased questions by yours truly, and a wonderful debate at the very end!

Just to let you know, we are going on a brief hiatus two episodes hence to mainly recharge our batteries and to keep us from going crazy. Episode 17 features our Canadian pals Adam Nayman and Andrew Tracy, and helping us round out finale episode 18 should be, barring any unforeseens, Mike D'Angelo (Esquire, Las Vegas Weekly, the infamous Twitter) who isn't too sure what the hell it is we do, but he's willing to come on anyway!

As always, if you see either me or Vadim at the bar, please buy us a drink. Just no Blue Moon.

*Special Note: We are discontinuing the "Listen to the End, Get a Prize!" feature. It turns out people do listen to the end and have found our little trick. So ... thanks! We appreciate it.

*2nd Note: If anyone knows how we can talk Ed Koch into showing up, tell us below or contact Keith. Totally want him on to discuss Hellboy 2. (JL)

yikes. two notes:
a) ignore my typo up there, folks.should read we're going on hiatus after the NEXT episode.

wrote this way too early.

b) Mike should be coming on for ep. 17 not 18.

Ep 18 won't be until we come back for Season 2.

And we may even do the lost ep. 5 with Eric Kohn too!

and i remain your humble idiot savant with heavy emphasis on the former.

Is it awesome that the discussion of rapists happens while Psycho Killer plays in the background? Yes - it is awesome

Although it is slightly less awesome if you consider that that is one of the songs that is played EVERY TIME WE ARE THERE. Every time we also hear Squeeze (either "Another Nail In My Heart" or "Pulling Mussels From The Shell"). I'm gonna make a Grassroots muxtape someday.
