By Matt Zoller Seitz
Home, an ensemble romantic drama written, edited and directed by the proprietor of this blog and shot in and around his home in Brooklyn, is now available on DVD by way of Vanguard Cinema. The disc includes the movie, a trailer, a stills gallery, supplemental material about casting, shooting and sound design, and two director's commentary tracks -- one featuring anecdotes about production and editing, and a second, more personal track that discusses the significance of the house and fesses up to how the movie's various subplots were drawn from life. You can rent Home through Netflix and buy it through Barnes and Noble and Amazon. For more information, visit the movie's website, or see Vanguard's page by clicking here.

Hope you're pleased with how everything turned out and that Vanguard is a fair minded and filmmaker friendly distributor.
I'm happy with the disc -- it was designed and executed by me and my brother and coproducer, Jeremy Seitz -- though of course I wish I'd had the time and mental focus to do something more comprehensive (deleted scenes, etc.), an unrealistic wish given my present circumstances. But the commentary tracks are pretty unusual for a movie of this nature, and I'm proud of them.
As for Vanguard, we'll see. They got the movie into major chains, and that ain't nothing.
Great news! Although my current financial sitch means it may be some time before I can see it. Maybe I can convince the good folks at Premiere Video in your old stomping grounds (Dallas) to obtain a copy.
It's next in my Netflix queue.
Matt, best of luck with this. House is a lovely film, but lissen, what about a spoiler alert with that screen cap, bud?
Matt, I can't wait to listen to the commentaries, and I've told all my Netflix pals to put it in their queues (or risk a visit from Saint Pimpstick). I've ordered my copy of Home from Amazon, and I'm damn terrified of what they'll associate it with in the annoying "recommendations" section that embarrasses the shit out of me when I go on Amazon at work.
I remember I bought a copy of the Kama Sutra and an E. Lynn Harris book. The latter was for my sister, the former was a wedding present for a friend of mine (I have FOUR copies of the thing myself) and Amazon presented my "recommendations" with books on tantric gay sex. I can't wait to see how they fit Home into THAT recommendation.
Congrats again on the DVD release!
Dan: I would like to think it's only a spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie. It's just some girl touching some guy's face in front of a door. I hope.
And actually, it's "Home," but don't fret -- my mom makes the same mistake. The next movie title will not be a common noun.
Odie: Actually, according to Amazon, people who bought "Home" also bought the widescreen 2-disc DVD of "V for Vendetta" and the Dixie Chicks "Taking the Long Way." Maybe the latter can be explained by the fact that the Dixie Chicks once did an album titled "Home." Not so sure about the "V for Vendetta" rec, though.
What, this isn't a plug for that doctor show starring Hugh Laurie? Well, fuggedabout it!
As for NETFLIX Recommendations...
Apparently, I'll also enjoy HUSTLE & FLOW, MARIA FULL OF GRACE, MONSTER, SAINTS AND SOLDIERS, LAYER CAKE and SOMERSAULT.
Matt, I can't wait to see this -- even if there are no drug mules, lesbian serial killers, Memphis pimps, British gangsters or somersaults.
PS: Now Amazon is offering a discount for purchasing "Home" along with the Lindsay Lohan movie "Just My Luck." Let's see, Lindsay Lohan or V, the antifascist avenger?
Jason: "Matt, I can't wait to see this -- even if there are no drug mules, lesbian serial killers, Memphis pimps, British gangsters or somersaults."
That's the next one. How did you know?
Matt: I would LOVE to see your reaction when they offer a discount on Home when you buy Crash!
Odie: To quote Michael Biehn in "Aliens," if it comes to that, I'll do us both.
