Playing with links

It's been a while since I went three days without a new post, but I'm tuckered out from my trip to RiverRun, which went very well. It's a friendly festival with good movies that really seems to have its act together, and audiences were plentiful and quite engaged. (Great Q&A's, at my movie and others.) The timing worked out so I got to interview director James Bai of "Puzzlehead," who was out there at the same time, so you can expect that feature later in the week, to coincide with my NYPress review of his movie. Also, be sure to check back in tomorrow morning for a review of tonight's "Sopranos" episode.

And peruse the sidebar at right. By popular request, I've grouped links from some recurring topics (Terrence Malick, Robert Altman, Television-related stuff) and regular features (5 for the day, From the short stack) under common headings so they're easier to find. If anyone has any additional sidebar suggestions, post them below.

Mr. Film Director/Blog Dude,

You read my short-circuiting, computer programming mind! I was going to suggest you group your links together, since you deal with common topics (Malick, whose ears must have burned off his head by now, with all your talk about him) and repeated sections (5 for the Day, Sopranos). Great idea!

It's 9:33, so you must be watching the Sopranos in preparation for tomorrow's column. I haven't watched The Sopranos in years, and the only reason I watched the first few seasons was because I was trapped in Ohio, and I could see my hometown and home state on the show.

However, the cable company says I watch The Sopornos, which I am being billed for on this month's cable bill. I think I'd remember that, especially since it's billed on the day I was in the hospital having surgery. Was I two places at the same time, like Robert Blake in Lost Highway? And if I were, why was I watching The Sopornos? Why not The Nude World or D's of Heaven or Bedlands? Or The Thick Red Line? That Malick--he makes some kick ass porn, man!

But I digress. The links grouping was a great idea! Hope HOME was warmly received.

What can I say? Life intervened.

In any event, the "Sopranos" review will be up shortly.

So the dramatic pause holds further - drat. I am looking forward to a weekly write up on the series - your first Sopranos blog was very well done.

One note (since we are still waiting) last night's episode did enlighten me on the mise-en-scene of the 6th season poster! Tony - completely seperated from everyone - Melfi's reflection as the mind's only pressence... and the different worlds of Tony (inside) vs. the Family (outside).

Great stuff.

Not to pimp too much, since I'm looking forward to reading Matt's take as much as the next guy, if you need some analysis to tide you over, there's my column from today's Star-Ledger.

The item is finally up (click here). Among other things, it includes a link to Alan's column.
